The short answer
Keep DocuSign running until your open envelopes finish. Download the signed copies and certificates you need to keep. List the templates you actually use and rebuild those in bSign, or send us your five most-used documents and we rebuild them for free. Reconnect your apps, send a test to yourself, then move new documents to bSign and cancel DocuSign at the end of its term.
Before you start
- Check when your DocuSign plan renews, and the notice it needs to cancel. Switching mid-term is fine, you just keep paying until the term ends.
- Decide who needs to send documents. In bSign, signers never need an account or pay for anything.
- Write down which other tools send or receive DocuSign envelopes: your CRM, PSA, Microsoft 365, or a Zapier flow.
Step 1: Save what is already signed
Completed envelopes stay valid, and they stay with DocuSign. bSign does not import them. Before you cancel, download the signed PDFs you need to keep, with their certificates of completion, and file them with your records (or in your document store).
Do this early. It is the one step you cannot do after the account closes. Menu names in DocuSign change from time to time, so look for the download option on completed envelopes, and pick the version that includes the certificate.
Step 2: Pick the templates that matter
Most accounts have dozens of templates and use five or six. List the ones sent in the last few months and ignore the rest.
For each one, you need the PDF or Word file, the signers (for example Client and Company), and where the fields go. In bSign, upload the file, add the signer roles, place the fields, and save it as a template. Auto-detect finds signature, date and name lines on its own, so a placement that took ten minutes takes one or two.
Or send us the five documents you use most. We rebuild them in bSign, fields and all, at no charge, usually within your first week.
Step 3: Reconnect your apps
- CRM or PSA: bSign connects to Syncro, ConnectWise PSA, Autotask PSA, HubSpot, vtiger and others, and files the signed PDF back on the record. See the integrations page.
- Cloud storage: signed copies can be filed in OneDrive, Google Drive, Box or Dropbox.
- Zapier and Power Automate: the connectors are on the integrations page, and the API is documented under developers.
Step 4: Run a test
Send a document to yourself and a colleague. Sign it on a phone. Check that the email looks right (your logo and colours are set in Branding), that reminders arrive, and that the finished PDF has its audit trail and certificate.
Step 5: Move over and cancel
- Let open DocuSign envelopes finish. Do not void them just to move them.
- Send everything new from bSign from a set day.
- Tell the people who send documents where the templates are.
- Cancel DocuSign at the end of its term, once the downloads in step 1 are done.
bSign is made in Ontario and keeps documents on servers in Canada. If you want help with the move, the switching page has a form, or forward your latest DocuSign invoice to support@bsign.ca with "switch" in the subject.
